Not only natives of the common people, but also the greatest thinkers were dedicated to this sport. Greco-Roman wrestling played a prominent role in the development of any ancient Greek.

But history has dubbed Greco-Roman wrestling “French”. Why? This is because a peculiar set of rules emerged in France. They were so clearly formed that the very name of the duel was kept until 1948. Then the old name was returned to it.

The first wrestling championship was held in Vienna, in 1898.

Rules of the wrestling

The standard time allocated to a bout is three minutes, so twice a game. Between the first and second bout an athlete rests for half a minute.

Victory goes to whoever knocks him down on his shoulder blades on the tush (wrestling mat).

In case of a tie, time is given to determine the stronger wrestler.

Points can be awarded for either victory or infringements.
